The Dive Bar on my Corner

I had been inside the dive bar on my corner only one other time, on my twenty-fourth birthday — Calvin was with me and I was wasted. As we passed the bar on the way back to my place, I noticed the neon sign and said, “Let’s go in here!” as if I were suggesting we suddenly move to Italy. He agreed, but I could tell my excitement bothered him — Calvin preferred when my enthusiasm was that of an adorable little squirrel discovering a nut. He couldn’t handle the energy of a woman figuring out what made her truly happy in this life.
